Current faculty role
Dr. Johnstone is a professor and chair
of the Department of Health Psychology, University of Missouri-Columbia School
of Health Professions. He is licensed as a psychologist/health service provider
in the state of Missouri, and is board certified in clinical neuropsychology.
The department provides clinical health, rehabilitation, and neuropsychological
services to individuals with physical, mental, and cognitive disabilities,
including inpatient and outpatient populations, ranging from child to geriatric
populations. He was also principal investigator of the Missouri
Model Brain Injury System.
Dr. Johnstone's primary clinical duties include performing outpatient neuropsychological assessments of individuals with any cognitive dysfunction (brain injury, stroke, dementia, epilepsy, etc.). In addition to working at University Hospital, Dr. Johnstone provides services to outreach areas in Jefferson City, Rolla, and St. Louis.
Dr. Johnstone's research includes the study of the functional utility of neuropsychology, construct validity of common neuropsychological measures, psychology specialty training issues, and the relationship among health psychology specialties. He has over 25 publications and has published in Psychological Assessment, Archives of Clinical Neuropsychology, JINS, Developmental Neuropsychology, and NeuroRehabilitation.
Dr. Johnstone has served as a Missouri Psychological Association (MOPA) committee chairperson since 1991 (Continuing Education, Scientific Affairs, SCOP liasion) and is currently serving as the president of MOPA for 1998-99. He also serves as book review editor for Brain Injury.
